Kaptivate

Back to Rescue Horses

Kaptivate is a 17HH registered Trakehner/Paint gelding. Kaptivate is out of Kaspareit.  He was bred to be a dressage competitor.

Kappi, as we call him, spent 1 year at a high stakes dressage barn in Ventura County. Confined to a stall 23 hours a day, the then 4 YO became over-stimulated with no outlet for his stress. He was started under saddle and worked with a trainer for several months, a half hour to 40 minutes 5 days a week. Due to his owner's illness and sudden loss of her husband, Kaptivate's training was abruptly halted, and he came to the Rescue for a well-deserved outlet for his emotional needs. The Rescue Director was told by his trainer that he had not been exposed to dressage training, but was becoming confident in his walk, trot, canter before he left the barn.

Kaptivate has been at the Rescue for 3 yrs. He has become part of  the herd, spread his wings and blossomed under the Rescue's direction. His stress  is gone, he is focused, centered and enjoys partnership with his handler. Kaptivate is ready for a new rider, someone with whom he can bond and have fun. As far as we know, he would be suitable for most types of performance work.  Finding what he loves to do would be the key! Kappi loves to be happy!

Kaptivate is very sensitive and gentle and highly physical. He loves people and bonds very well with a human who is kind and understands him. He loves to touch humans and horses and enjoys a close physical interaction with his handler.

He plays at liberty and responds well to reward.  Kappi looks to strong female horses to bond with and feels most secure in their company. He is healthy, sound and loves to canter, his favorite gait. A flaming extrovert, Kappi responds best to gentle communication and reward, poorly to dominance or force. He is motivated by fast moving activities and play.

Kaptivate requires adequate space to live and exercise, the company of other horses, and a devoted handler. No stall confinement.
